Silk and Sight
The process of silk screening is one that must follow rigorous rules else there is the risk of ruining the equipment.
This workshop allows students to explore colour theory while applying the skills of silk screening original designs in groups.
In groups students choose a simple shape and cut it out on tissue paper then tape it to the screen. Each group chooses a colour and that colour and shape are then locked to that particular screen. Groups work collaboratively as learners and artists with the idea of authorship being removed from the process, which approach is one suggested to lead to greater integrity within art making (Barthes, 1967 located in Kirlew, 2011).
